Final Project for Religions of the World (cont) Manifesto - TopicsExpress

Final Project for Religions of the World (cont) Manifesto put in place by the fourth president of Mormonism, President Wilford Woodruff, which abolished the practice of polygamy in Mormonism in 1890. Other major differences between Mormonism and Christianity lie in their opposing views of the afterlife. Christianity believes that if one is not saved, and they die, that they will spend their eternity in hell. There is no other way around this fate once someone has died. In Christianity to “be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8). Meaning that after death there is no other place that the soul can reside besides either heaven or hell after judgment, which contradicts the beliefs of Mormonism that there is another chance at making it into heaven after death. They also believe in different levels or kingdoms of heaven. There are some slight similarities of Mormonism and Nondenominational Christianity, such as the celebration of some of the same holidays, but they pale in comparison to the major differences of these two religions. The interview of Reverend Mark Dwomoh greatly enlarged and clarified my ideas about Nondenominational Christianity. The title of Nondenominational does not completely eliminate the practices and beliefs of other pertinent denominations, as Nondenominational churches hold many of the same doctrines, rituals, and practices. It does however eliminate the invisible wall between the other denominations in that Nondenominational Christian churches are not bound by the constraints or restrictions of other denominations. They are able to govern themselves and are more than capable of applying the Bible based doctrines found in the Old and New Testaments of the Holy Bible. Nondenominational Churches do not follow the practices of saying Hail Marys and structured confessions, and they report directly to God through Jesus Christ directly. They are not slaves to any overbearing ideals of more divisive religious subgroups. In Nondenominational Christian churches, a persons personal relationship with God is amplified and encouraged. In reflection of the research done in regards to the Mormon religion, I find it rather difficult to accept Mormons as Christians, or as a form or denomination of Christianity. In fact, it seems as though pairing the two vastly different religions is a form of blasphemy and is vexatious to Bible Bred Christians of any denomination. This course as well as this Final Project has opened my eyes to understand the religions of others, and has helped to solidify my own faith. Reference Page Lighthouse Chapel International. (2015).
