Final countdown to the first Torbay Express of 2013 - only one day - TopicsExpress

Final countdown to the first Torbay Express of 2013 - only one day to go BUT Network Rial has introduced a Steam Operations ban in the Great Western Zone, which means we will be running Diesel hauled tomorrow with a classic Class 47. Both Network Rail (Great Western Zone) and the train operating company (DB Schenker) are implementing this ban, and Torbay Express Limited, the promoter of the ‘Torbay Express’ programme has no option but to go along with this as decisions were not confirmed until late this morning (Saturday, 6 July). This ban has been introduced because of the perceived fire risk from running a steam locomotive during the increasingly dry weather. Sparks emitted from a hard- working steam locomotive may set alight dry grasses and wood along the line side, which would require the Fire Brigade being called to deal with. Scheduled rail services may also be delayed as a result. This situation actually happened within Network Rails Great Western Zone late on Thursday with another operator. In accordance with our Booking and Travel Conditions we will be sending all passengers vouchers (£20 per person Standard Class, £30 First Class and £40 Premier Dining). We appreciate just how disappointing this will be and can only offer our sincerest apologies.
