Finally Queensland has made a small change to its animal protection act making it the strictest in the country! Max 7 year jail for someone found guilty of serve animal cruelty! But dont breath a sigh of relief yet peeps! Looking back who has ever been convicted of extreme animal cruelty? Not to many people! Not even the guys who dragged a pony on purpose behind a moving vehicle! Yes the penalties must change but so should the stupid rules on body scoring, feeding, trimming hooves, worming etc etc! If basic horse husbandry says it should be done to maintain a healthy horse then the law should reflect that! If you buy a particular type of animal you should research how to look after that animal properly and ignorance shouldnt be an excuse for a neglected animal - sorry your magistrate I didnt know horses ate more than grass doesnt cut it! If ignorance results in suffering than that should constitute extreme cruelty but sadly it doesnt! A step in the right directing yes but still so much more needs improving!
