Finally an explanation of why I take so many notes in church, - TopicsExpress

Finally an explanation of why I take so many notes in church, besides being a paper waster... How can we listen to his word (the Pastor) so that I am equipped to teach his Word to others? This changes everything. All of a sudden the pen and the paper come out. Note taking is not the measure of how committed we are as to making disciples, but if we are hearing Gods Word taught in order to teach others, then we want to get it down as best we can. When we realize we have responsibility to teach the Word, it changes everything about how we hear the Word. It also changes who hears the Word. Now the Word that is being preached in a worship gathering or taught in a small- group setting is subsequently being translated into context and spheres of influence represented all across a church. Gods Word is no longer just being heard in a building; it is being multiplied throughout a community. It is multiplying because the people of God are no longer listening as if his Word is intended to stop with them. They are now living as if Gods Word is intended to spread through them. I know my note taking helps the Word sink into my heart not just my brain also as a reminder of what my Pastor taught in his sermon. Most Pastors work very hard on preparing their sermons, so a good student of God should show respect for the teacher ( Pastor) by taking more then a few moments of interest in what he or she taught. Besides when Im dead and gone, my grands and great grands will know how serious their granny loved the Word of God being taught, by reading all my note books I leave behind. Not that what I write is important but since church is a big part of my life, why not write about it?
