Finally, *finally* filling up the 55 gallon emergency water barrel in the basement. We have 12 gallons of water supply, but Costco (thanks to Larry Guillot for the tip-off when the price was low) had a special on the 55 gallon barrel, and it seemed a smart move. Weve slowly built up emergency supplies for the house, including at least a weeks worth of food, a camp stove, and emergency blankets, maps, wind-up flashlights, etc. Its so easy to depend on the technological and power grid of our society, but the truth is its fragile. It felt like a very important way to care for my family to take some relatively simple measures to stockpile some emergency goods. It used to be normal- farming families always had food put up. Now its not normal at all. Curious- do you have emergency supplies in your home?
