Finally had a chance to see Selma today, and think its a really strong and important film. Should have a piece on TPM in the next couple days on the historical controversies, so Ill leave those thoughts for that piece. Instead, Ill say two things: the film captured both the visceral, violent histories and the personal, intimate lives as well as 12 Years a Slave (in a very different context of course); and I think its absolutely cray-cray that David Oyelowo didnt get a Best Actor nomination. In any case its well worth your time, and precisely the kind of historical storytelling we should be supporting and encouraging as fully as possible.
