Finally went outside to paint. First time Ive held a brush in over a month. Felt good to be out painting but I was disorganized as usual. Just threw all my junk on the back of the pickup and set up the easel next to that. The set-up photo is confusing because the saturation control on the camera was set on high. The grass was not that green, nor were any of the other colors for that matter. Photographs can be misleading or just flat-out lie. Best to work from life when possible. This is a plein aire of a Live Oak that had split in half and fallen to one side while the root system for the other half was propped up against the trunk of the part that lived. Its a freebie to raise money for the Horse Farm--some beautiful acreage that has been in the university system for as long as I can remember. Now its not and the developers are salivating. Im not sure what difference this little painting can make but I said I would do it, sooo. By the way, I do all this is in acrylics now. The fast-drying properties can be daunting but if one works fast (4 hrs.) its easier than oils and the airport Nazis dont give you problems with your gear when you fly. Did you know that oil paint can BLOW UP A PLANE? No? Well, it must be true if the way-out-of-control-nanny-state bureaucracy says so. Whatever. I try to adapt.
