Its fast growth changed a small agricultural settlement into a textile industry empire and in the end transformed the area into multicultural centre – home of Poles, Jews, German, Russians and other European nationalities. Nowadays the region is peppered with industrial monuments that after revitalization serve for different purposes such as: museums, apartments, hotels, office buildings, libraries and even culture and creative centres. Reference to design and creativity is seen in Lodzkie from policy strategies through education and solutions for SMEs support. Just to name a few: 1. Art Incubator (e.g. support services for SME’s), 2. Festivals (Lodz Design Festival and Fashion Philosophy), 3. Off Piotrkowska project (centre of start-ups operating in design and creative sector), 4. Technical University (with faculty of material technologies and textile design), 5. Academy of Fine Arts (with faculty of textile and fashion and faculty of industrial design and interior design). Lodzkie is also about furniture (Radomsko) and ceramic industry (Paradyż, Tubądzin) tradition, growing and developing with a use of design thinking.
