Finnegan Bean, our dachshund, will turn 3 this month. Last night - TopicsExpress

Finnegan Bean, our dachshund, will turn 3 this month. Last night we noticed him walking stiffly and awkwardly. This morning he had zero mobility in his back legs. The vet said it sounds like IVDD. In dachshunds, the most common cause of paralysis is IVDD (intervertebral disc disease or degeneration). IVDD occurs when the back is injured and the discs in between the vertebrae slip or become damaged. This is very sudden and unexpected. Finn doesnt jump on things, is not overweight, and didnt have any signs whatsoever that his back could/would give out. Especially not so young. There is no proven cure for IVDD paralysis. There is a surgery available where they go in and clear out the debris from the ruptured disc that could potentially work, but its only 85% effective and it costs thousands of dollars. Our other option is steroids, acupuncture, and laser treatments which are less effective and still very expensive. Even costs like a doggie wheelchair, special bedding, diapers and pee pads, physical therapy and the constant care are overwhelming for us. Please pray for Finn! Any advice and/or suggestions are very welcome.
