First Silverware for Ballyfin Ladies. Ballyfin Ladies U-12 Football played in the U-12 A League Final on Saturday last the 6th of September at Rathleague against Ballylinan. The weather was lovely, atmosphere was electrifying, girls fully prepared and trainers in tatters. Under the watchful eye of referee Joe Conroy, the game started at a blistering pace with Ballyfin taking control from the very first minute. They scored their first point after three minutes and set the pattern for the match. All fifteen players gave their all and played as a team should play, supporting each other, defending when required and attaching at every opportunity. Although Ballylinan tried their hardest, they just couldnt compete with Ballyfin on a day where they were totally on fire and brim full of confidence. Ballyfin went into the interval leading 3-4 to no score. The second half saw Ballylinan compose themselves and play some great football but despite this they just couldnt get past the Ballyfin defence. Each Ballyfin girl defended that lead as if their life depended on it. The second half saw all Ballyfin subs get on. This was no mean achievement on the day of a County Final as the panel consists of 28 players. Each new player introduced, put in the same outstanding performance as the girl she replaced. The game ended Ballyfin 4-7, Ballylinan 0-1. After some ecstatic scenes Ballyfins Captain Sinead ORourke was presented with the U-12 A League cup by Laois Ladies representative Martina Phelan. Thanks Martina for that and for all the great work you do for Laois Ladies. Many thanks to the Ballylinan girls who gave our girls a great game and tried their hardest. Its tough to loose a final. Thanks to their captain, who congratulated our girls on the win, that was very sporting. After the match the girls headed for Supermacs for some well earned food. There their trainers proved the hungrier. Perhaps the reason for this was pre-match nerves, in fact it is strongly rumoured that some could stomach nothing but a half bowl of porridge that morning. The club would like to congratulate all the girls on their achievement and to thank them for the pride theyve brought to their club. Wed also like to thank both this years trainers, Andrew, Donal and the two Damiens and also last years trainers who between them brought the team to this level. Many thanks to the brilliant support on the day and to parents who travelled all over the county with their girls during the year. A huge thanks to Ballylinan for a very sporting game, No doubt well meet again.
