First clash between Activists and police under the new Government ! My report. At the break of dawn on Tuesday, the Dalit families from Bhagana who have been protesting at Jantar Mantar for justice, started their day. Some went to the NDMC toilet nearby, some remained asleep, some went to get tea, when a posse of 500 policemen stormed the tents, dismantled the temporary shelter where the rape survivors had been protesting for about two months, and told them to leave the premises by 12 noon. The shock of the police attack had the families trembling in fear with the rape victims crying helplessly into the day. One of the young girls who had been raped and has been here since April 16 expressed complete helplessness as between tears she said, We have suffered so much of physical and emotional trauma, we are sitting here for almost two months now but no one is ready to listen to us, back in our village the upper castes do not let us study, they do not let us go to schools. No one from this or the last government has even listened to us. What should we do?”
