First let me state this, I DO NOT BELIEVE IN THE DEATH PENALTY! While the gentleman in this letter makes some very good points there are some facts that remain. Yes there is injustice in America. Yes there is inequality in the judicial system in America but one fact remains, if you break the law, you have broken the law.If as a person of morals you find certain laws morally repugnant, then it is up to you to change those laws. It matters not if you are black or white or any other race. I can say this because I have been a participant in this American justice system. I have broken the law and I have paid the price. I have given the state of Texas 4 years of my life by the ill choices I MADE! I own my mistakes. I payed for my mistakes. It had nothing to do with my color or my position in life. My parents were considered average as far as income level. I was given an opportunity to receive an education. It was by, MY OWN CHOICES, that my life was interrupted by the American Justice system not by my station in life. Not by my demographic location and certainly not by my race. If there are more black men incarcerated then that must mean there are more black men breaking the law and not America is just locking up more black men. That is a misnomer. It is misleading. If you break the law you pay for it. If you live in an impoverished area then it is up to you to do whatever you can to educate yourself to rise above that situation, not wait for others to level the playing field for you. It is up to you to look past your situation to see the future you want for yourself and not depend on others or the Government to get you there. There has not been a person born in this nation in the last hundred years that was a slave or remembers what it was to be a slave unless you made the choices that brought you to that position in this life. Your choices are yours. You can not blame others, or another race for that matter, for the choices YOU HAVE MADE!
