First of all, I would like to say thank you to everybody for the - TopicsExpress

First of all, I would like to say thank you to everybody for the support. I know some of you guys do not get it, but many of you do get it. Yes, I am Deaf. But, it doesnt mean that someone could treat me any differently. I have a name. My name is Luke. I am a human with feelings. There are another ways to get my attention instead of writing my name down on the receipt. I would like to see my name on the receipt instead of Deaf. Its really embarrassing. I am fully aware that they shout the names out at the counter once the order is ready. Thats why I stand by the counter to wait for my order. I know what my food looks like. What the cashier should have done is writing my name down and let the staff know who I am so they could wave to get my attention once my order is ready. It happened in the past with other restaurants and it works just fine. I had an interesting tweet conversation with Marlee Matlin. Her response was: Interesting. Yes, you do have a name; it should be there. But they call out names and probably dont want to be insensitive. My response was: That doesnt excuse them from writing Deaf. If hearing people get a name on their bill, why not me? Also, Panera Bread just reached out to me via Twitter and said they will have someone from their team to contact me. And, the local news station saw my tweet and want to run the story on it. I am not sure what to do next though. I think it is very important to educate the public to raise the awareness. Plus, Im a big coffee drinker which many of you guys know. Whenever I go in Starbucks to order a drink. They always always ask for my name. They never write Deaf down on my cup ever. And, they shout the drinks out but they always made sure that I see my drink on the counter so I dont see why it should be any differently with Panera Bread. I am Luke :)
