**** First possible tropical cyclone of the season to skirt the Australian coastline about a week from now **** While cyclone Kate continues to hover around well out in the Indian ocean which will have no impact in Australia whatsoever a new area of development needs to be looked at off the Kimberley coast of Western Australia. Roughly next Sunday and Monday (Jan 4th & 5th) Models are showing a low developing off the coast and may develop further into a cyclone as the monsoon trough strengthens and pushes south. At this stage it is hard to say which way this low/potential cyclone may move and how strong the system may become but very early signs are showing a mid level ridge developing to the south of the low/potential cyclone which will steer the system south west parallel to the Pilbara coast but being a week out that can change. We will continue to monitor this development and how it may progress over the coming week. Image two: ACCESS model showing a similar situation with this tropical low forming the map is for Monday January 5th. - JWC
