First rule of any engagement - know your enemy! Appointments to Lantau Development Advisory Committee announced The Government announced today (January 17) the appointment of 19 non-official members to the Lantau Development Advisory Committee for a term of two years from February 1, 2014, to January 31, 2016. With the completion of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge in the coming years, Lantau will become the confluence of Hong Kong, Macau and the western Pearl River Delta (PRD). To capitalise on the benefits brought about by the mega infrastructure projects in the area and the synergy between Hong Kong and the PRD, the Chief Executive announced in his Policy Address the establishment of the Committee to map out the economic and social development strategy for Lantau, a spokesman for the Development Bureau said. The non-official members of the Committee come from a wide spectrum of sectors, including members of the Legislative Council, the Heung Yee Kuk, the District Councils, think tanks and the tourism and logistics industries, and professionals and academics with vast experience and rich knowledge in the local community and their own professions/sectors. We are grateful for their agreement to serve on the Committee, the spokesman added. The Committee is responsible for advising the Government, through the Secretary for Development, on: 1) the social and economic development opportunities on Lantau to capitalise on its advantages as the confluence of major transport infrastructure linking Hong Kong, Macau and the western PRD, so as to meet the long-term development needs of Hong Kong; and 2) the policies, measures and specific proposals conducive to the sustainable development and conservation of Lantau.
