Fishermen found the body of a deceased woman in the White River in Freedom Wednesday afternoon. Results from an autopsy and toxicology tests are pending, Owen County Coroner Stan Frank said. Forensic pathologist Roland Kohr performed the autopsy in Terre Haute Thursday afternoon. The body was discovered in the water just south of the Freedom bridge, with the fishermen who found her contacting the sheriff’s department at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Frank said. Kohr estimated the woman was in her early 20s to early 30s, Frank said. Officials plan to use dental records and fingerprinting to help identify the woman. “We really don’t have any leads right now,” Frank said by phone Thursday evening. “It’s still under investigation. Anything’s possible right now.” Lt. William Snodgrass of the Owen County Sheriff’s Department estimated the body may have been in the water for four to seven days. Members of the Owen County’s Sheriff’s Department, coroner’s department and prosecutor’s office are investigating, as are members of the Indiana State Police. Indiana Conservation Officers assisted in recovering the woman’s body from the river. Anyone with information can contact the Owen County Sheriff’s Department at 812-829-4874 or Frank at 812-821-2121
