Fishing has slowed considerably on the Upper Owens. Heavy pressure over the weekend, & very cold air temps/wind are some of the factors. Mr. Eureka Burger and fantastic fly fisher Ronnie Guidone got into several really nice bows with his friend Mammoth local Matt Figel. Matts fish was not very happy he got a crystal Vanderleech stuck in his mouth! First time to the Upper Owens, & Crowley Lake was a success for pretty Leslie Wilson. She got into some nice fish like this awesome brownie on the last day of the season at Crowley (closed until next season) Jerry G. guided her. Leslie also got some nice fish with me while using SJ worms, artificial eggs, & Crystal Vanderleeches on the UO. High fives Leslie, way to mend that line! I updated the website fish report extensively with new info for the year around waters. Veteran Drifter Devin Preston always gets bigs on the UO. This one he fooled solo, nice fish Dev! Slower fishing on the Middle Owens last couple of days also. I had 10 degrees at dawn today while splashing the drift boat! Cooler water put the kibosh on the mayfly/caddis hatches. Janice I. hit some quality bows with Doug R. at the oars. Flows remain low and we are having to work harder to get the fish to hit streamers since it cooled down. Hot Creek & the East Walker open year around, both are fishing poor/fair currently. Pleasant Valley Res. also open all year. Level is dropping again making for better access near the transition area. Lots of very small planters here with some good ones in the mix. Try a dry/dropper bead head when it warms up. Tiger midges ALWAYS get them here. General trout season now closed in Inyo and Mono Counties.
