Fishing report Slowly but surely the weather is settling enough for us to get out for a few days fishing in a row. Wind and sea conditions always influence the areas that we target. Being able to head for more open water provides a greater opportunity to target a few of our favourite spots. Mondays fishing trip out on the Ratahi with Lloyd at the helm, was out around the Middle Ground in about 30 metres. We had a group from Auckland on board and they were keen to try fishing in the bay. The water is still cold at around 15. There were lots of little snapper determined to steal the bait, but we got a few nice tarakihi which was a change from the usual for our visitors. Most of the tarakihi were caught with squid while pillys and skippy attracted the snapper. Chicca from Italy caught her first ever fish, a nice tarakihi which she thoroughly enjoyed for breakfast the following morning. Saturdays trip on Te Kuia was an early 5 am start. Some of the guys went free-diving on Tuhua reef, managing to spear some nice blue moki. They caught a legal kingfish on the Penguin Shoals using a live bait, but the rest of the day, the fishing was pretty slow. Kingfish and kahawai are chasing the whitebait into the harbour.
