Fitness instructors and PT friends: I had a conversation this - TopicsExpress

Fitness instructors and PT friends: I had a conversation this morning with a colleague in the kitchen about her struggles with weight and diet. Shes been skipping breakfast, drinking 1 cup of coffee, having a 300 to 600 calorie shop-bought lunch, a biscuit in the afternoon and her largest meal of the day is a modest but fresh cooked dinner. She walks to/from the station at both ends and gets in exercise at the gym irregularly but she feels tired all the time and her kids need a lot of attention, which wears her down on top of her busy job. It surprised her I did not suggest she eat less or go to the gym more, it was that I suggested she (1) have a small but balanced breakfast with protein and fiber (2) drink more water (3) exercise or gym once week, and (4) take her kids out for a walk 3 times a weeknight. I made these as a first-step suggest because (1) she struggles in the morning to wake up and doesnt eat protein or fiber until evening as her lunch is usually packed from a shop and doesnt give her the calories she needs to work through the day. I think this is why she reaches for cookies in the afternoon and feels lethargic (2) she definitely only drinks about 500 ml water a day which cant be good for brain function (3) she needs a habit of going to get exercise just for herself to have a blast and raise her heart rate properly (4) walking is therapeutic, lowers stress hormones which would in turn help her sleep better, and it wears out the kids a little. Thoughts??
