Five Boys Rescued From Being Sold Into Slavery by Peti Siyame March 18, 2013 Sumbawanga, Mar 18, 2013 (Tanzania Daily News/All Africa Global Media) -- POLICE in Sumbawanga have apprehended for interrogation one Musa Charles (28), resident of Kate village in Nkasi District, Rukwa region with intent to sell five boys at 50,000/- each. Rukwa Regional Police Commander, Mr Jacob Mwaruanda said that the suspect was arrested on March 13, this year in Sumbawanga town while he was transporting the boys to Mpanda District in neighbouring Katavi region. According to the RPC, the boys who are estimated to be between 12 and 16 years old were transported to Mpanda District by the suspect where it is alleged that there is a ready market for boys who are sold to be engaged in either the herding of cattle or cultivation of crops without pay. Thanks to a tip-off from concerned citizens, the suspect was caught red handed at the Main Bus Terminal in Sumbawanga town while waiting to take a public transport to Mpanda District with the five boys. “Preliminary investigations show that the suspect enticed the minors to run away from their parents at Matanga village and accompany him,” said the RPC. The RPC confirmed that all the five boys have been returned safely to Matanga village where they have reunited with their families .
