Five Indian varsities have made it to the top spots in the latest Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2013-14. India’s position in the global ranking has improved with two new entries this year when compared to three universities in the previous year, according to a PTI report. In a surprising revelation, Panjab University is ranked in the 226-250 band surpassing Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur and Roorkee which were ranked in the 351-400 band. This year, IIT Kharagpur slipped from 226-250 into the 351-400 group, and IIT Roorkee retained its position in the 351-400 band.
