Latest Trip Advisor Review: Everything a European expects - over-priced, poor quality food badly prepared. Remarkably unpleasant sausages, mushrooms floating in fat, rancid tomatoes, ... And my response: Congratulations on your first ever review. Thank you for taking the time to write such extensive and constructive comments. Allow me please to give you some feedback. Let’s assume you are a “European” – which arguably in fact we all are. Your review casts doubt on the English breakfast in its widest sense and specifically the “best breakfast in Oxford “ and “ home-made sausages second to none “ – see previous reviews below. As a European apparently living in Oxford your comments risk provoking English pride and our values of restraint and tolerance. The battles of Agincourt and Waterloo are good examples of how when provoked our pride manifests itself. This great city of Oxford has also welcomed over the centuries ‘Europeans’ of every hue and character, and has educated many famous writers and critical thinkers. In the food critic category, and should you be considering writing further reviews, may I suggest to you the works of AA Gill and Jay Rayner? As regards the “best breakfast in Oxford”, your comments come close to infringing our laws of libel – that have their roots in English defamation law and from which so many modern jurisdiction systems around the world are built. For the record our standard Oxford English breakfast (£6.50) consists of the following: One Oxford sausage made by us, using 100% pork mince – without any bulk filling (thus making it also gluten free). It’s based upon a Victorian recipe and contains thyme, sage, lemon zest and the relatively unknown herb of winter savoury that used to grow throughout the English countryside. Two rashers of unsmoked back bacon, dry cured by hand using sea salt and unrefined brown sugar, supplied by the Dukeshill Ham Company (by appointment to Her Majesty the Queen). One free range egg, delivered to us fresh every day from a local organic Oxfordshire egg farm. English chestnut mushrooms or tomatoes delivered to us fresh every day from the market and that are seasoned and cooked in extra virgin olive oil to order. Two pieces of sourdough toast with unsalted butter. Our sourdough is made by the award-winning Old Farmhouse Bakery, Steventon, Oxfordshire. In England, we also have a well-tested and long standing method of resolving disputes when our values of tolerance and restraint are pushed to a limit. We dispense with anonymity- and social media- and meet face to face. May I refer you to the Marquess of Queensbury rules?
