Flagship of the Clyde steamer fleet in 1967, the Duchess of Hamilton is seen dressed overall and passing John Browns Yard No 736 (soon to be launched and named RMS Queen Elizabeth 2) on Wednesday 20th September 1967. The Caledonian Steam Packet Company turbine steamer brought a large number of passengers from downriver, berthing close to the west end of the south wall of the Rothesay Dock, to enable her passengers to witness the launch the latest and last liner of the Cunard Line to be built on the Clyde. The very first transatlantic Cunard liner, the paddle steamer Britannia, had been built on the Clyde 127 years earlier. This was the sixth last day of the Duchess of Hamiltons1967 season on the Clyde, at the end of which her most well-known Master, Captain Fergus B Murdoch MBE retired after commanding the vessel every year since 1946.
