Flash News Kashmir: Hurriyat Conference(G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani, who continues to be under house arrest since March 7 When He Returns From Delhi Today again not allowed to offer Friday Prayers......... >> Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Geelani, who continues to be under house arrest since March 7 and was again not allowed to offer Friday prayers today. Since his arrival from Delhi, Syed Ali Geelani continues to be virtually in jail and a heavy contingent of police is keeping a continuous and strict vigil over all visitors and guests. While terming restrictions, a worst type of state terrorism, Hurriyat Conference said that Umer Abdullah regime has surpassed all previous records and added; virtually the entire state has been turned into a worst jail. Friday, spokesman, Ayaz Akbar in a statement urged human rights organizations for their cognizance and said that Syed Ali Geelani, since year 2010 has been confined to his house and added; however administration has so far failed to provide any legal or constitutional justification for his detention. Spokesman said neither it is clear that under which section of law he has been detained nor is being released from the illegal confinement. Spokesman said that over last three years of detention police has failed to submit a court order and till now Hurriyat Conference has not received any such written directions in this regard. It is a sheer coercion and on gunpoint a responsible citizen is being detained, said Hurriyat and yet it is not clear, till how long this state of repression will continue. Referring to statement of Umer Abdullah wherein he had said that there are no restrictions on Syed Ali Geelani and he is free to offer Friday prayers and this was followed by the statement of police chief Mr Ashoke Prasad saying that Syed Ali Geelani can offer prayers in nearby mosque. Spokesman said that despite these statements, detention not only continues, but even more and severe restrictions were imposed and added that either Omar Abdullah and Mr. Prasad, are deliberately lying or the entire matter is out of their jurisdiction and it is Home Ministry of India that runs all affairs in the state. Hurriyat spokesman said that in both cases the position of Umer Abdullah becomes suspicious and ridiculous. Hurriyat criticized the attitude of police and added that visitors are being subjected to several questioning and even journalists are not allowed to meet Syed Ali Geelani, unless they produce permission from IG police. Spokesman, citing the case of a lady journalist from Washington Post, added that she too was not allowed to meet Syed Ali Geelani and police forced her to stay in open and only after direction from their top brass, was allowed to meet the leader. Hurriyat said, that they had filled a writ petition challenging the detention of their leader and added that Justice Warinder Singh has passed an order in this regard, yet neither it is being announced nor till date court clarifies whether the detention has any legal justification or the leader has been just detained and confined to four walls of his residence. Hurriyat Conference while appealing Amnesty International and other international institutions for their intervention to ensure Syed Ali Geelani’s freedom from detention. Ceb
