The traffic and police department organise various awareness programmes throughout the year, residents and activists are of the opinion that focus should be on improving citys infrastructure. Highlighting the various improvements, activist Nilesh Ambekar shared, The traffic department should see that defunct signals are removed and those which are functional should be operative 24X7. The height of the signals should be visible enough for all and the speed breakers and lanes should be demarcated properly so that driving at night becomes easy. Ambekar said though much has been done, however, there are many things that still needs attention. In recent times, more traffic signals and police chowkis are required for better management because population has increased manifold. The services also needs to be improved along with the awareness programmes, Ambedkar said. People demand that monthly review of the system should be done and whatever has become obsolete should be removed. The commuters opine that the officials should invite suggestions and implement the changes. Kalpesh Hadkar, a resident, shared, During the road safety week, we are asked to follow traffic rules and cops say we can approach them, but zebra crossing and traffic signals are missing at many places and when we complain we are made to run from pillar to post. Hadkar added that though the police say they are approachable, the fact remains that at times its difficult to get even a case registered.
