Follow the money - Now, why would they do this? Higher dues - Figure that even if the companies lay off a third of the workers, the union dues on the higher wages will still be higher. Plus, they are trying to recruit more members. This is what were doing! And they dont stop to consider that it may cost them a job. In addition, a lot of union contracts are written as multiples of the minimum wage... The widget tightener position will receive 210% of prevailing minimum wage, or in the event of cost of living or negotiated raises, whichever is higher. Thats where the REAL money and the real motive is.
