Following is from a note I sent out to the team at Real earlier today: ----- Team, I’m writing to share some important personnel news about a change in our senior leadership team we’ve just announced. Today we’re announcing the appointment of Marjorie Thomas as our new CFO. Marj will be succeeding Tim Wan, who as most of you know has been with us for 14 years, and as some of you know recently relocated to the Bay Area for personal reasons. The effective date of the transition is February 4th, which is the date of our next earnings announcement. There are 2 important (& related) pieces of news here – about Tim, and about Marj. First, the Tim part. In the middle of last year Tim came to me and explained that he and his family had decided to move back to the Bay Area (where Tim is from) for family reasons. We agreed that this would at some point necessitate making a change in Tim’s role, so we began to look for someone who could do a world-class job as Tim’s successor. Since then, Tim has continued to give 110% and our financial operations haven’t skipped a beat. I’m grateful for that, as well as for everything Tim has done in his 14 years at Real. I remember meeting Tim early in his career at Real and quickly seeing that he was someone with extraordinary talent matched by extraordinary drive and passion. It has been truly a delight to work with Tim. I know that I speak for both the finance team and the entire leadership team at Real when I say that we have loved working closely with Tim and that he has been someone who brought and brings out the best in all of us. After transitioning his CFO responsibilities, Tim will continue to work for us in an advisory capacity while he figures out what his next adventure is. Second, Marj. We are extremely fortunate to have someone of Marj’s caliber come in as Tim’s successor. Marj’s CV speaks for itself: 20 years in Finance at Hewlett-Packard, then SVP of Finance and Corporate Controller at Sony Electronics, then VP of Corporate Finance and Treasurer at Intuit. You can read more details here: realnetworks/press/releases/2015/RealNetworks-Appoints-Marjorie-Thomas-Chief-Financial-Officer.aspx. Beyond her knowledge and credentials, Marj is also someone who will be a great leader at Real in lots of ways – she’s intellectually rigorous, highly collaborative, and intensely focused on winning and being a key part of a winning team. Those of you reading this who are in Seattle will have a chance to thank Tim personally and to meet Marj in our company meeting in about 2 hours. Those at other sites will certainly get a chance to meet Marj in the weeks ahead. In closing, I want to again thank Tim for everything he’s done for Real over the past 14 years, and extend a hearty welcome to Marj! Rob
