Food for thought If backward (socially) countries like UAE, Pakistan can have female fighter pilots, if a paramilitary force like BSF can be forward looking and have female troops(yes troops not officers) then why cant the Indian army look beyond horizon. High time Indian army to amend army act section 11 and 12... 1. Start employing female soldiers as troops (services is a good option for start). 2. Commissioning of female officers in fighting arms like infantry, armoured corps, mech, arty and engineers (they do get commission in engineers) and flying branch in army aviation. If RR bns in fd can have SL officers as quarter masters then why cant female officers be suitable as adjutant and quarter masters.. Also in formations they may be the GLO, OC Camp and other staff appointments. 3. With induction of troops (female), prepare female officers for command, grant permanent commission (steps are underway for this). This achieves two aims : 1. It gives parity in service to women and is a broad minded view, the general atmosphere would improve in the army. 2. The problem of shortage of manpower especially the officer cadre in units would be solved. How to achieve: 1. Amend the military law to suitable reforms. 2. Recruit female troops, new training facilities may be established or existing ones increased. Troops in ASC, ORD, PROVOST(solve problems in CI as well of lady police reps in ops), EME, MILITARY FARMS. 3. Induce female officers in fighting arms for this the training duration and facilities need an increase. (a) training duration should be minimum 78 weeks that is 1 year 6 months. (b) training standards to be on the same level as male officers (after expert medical opinion this point may be debated). 4. Female officers employed as quarter masters, adm and rear echelon commanders, adjutant.
