For As Long As You Need Me When my Goddaughter lost her mother a year ago we developed a deeper bond. I knew the days and nights ahead would be rough so I told her I’d be there to talk, to listen and to cry with her for as long as she needed me. And that’s exactly what we’ve done. She called recently to ask if she could come spend a night. She said she needed to be ‘babied’ for a little while. When she gets here, I’ll do just that … for as long as she needs me to. Everyday we walk by, sit next to, work with or even live with folk whose hearts are broken or whose spirits are shattered. They’d love to have someone just to talk to or listen to them; someone to cry with or to ‘baby’ them for a little while. Christ offers Himself as that someone when He says ‘Come to me, all you who are weary and heavy ladened, and I will give you rest.’ (Matthew 11:28) Why not offer yourself to someone today, my friend … for as long as they need you?
