For HS Students; parents; guardians; those thinking of seeking College ROTC Scholarships: The following is information current as of today, 18 March, and was obtained from a phone conversation I had with the US Naval ROTC officer at Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University. U.S. Navy-Spring 2014 graduating US Navy NROTC Midshipmen nation-wide WILL be commissioned immediately and will report to their specialty schools without delay. U.S. Marine Corps-Spring 2014 graduating NROTC Midshipmen, Marine Corps Option, will experience some delay before receiving orders to report to The Basic School (TBS) to begin active duty due to a backlog of officers awaiting orders to TBS. The VPISU rep stated these new graduates will be placed on inactive reserve status until openings occur at TBS. Ive been informed by some parents of Army ROTC officers who expect to graduate this Spring from programs across the country that their commissions WILL be delayed. However, I have not been able to confirm this with the US Army ROTC officer on staff as yet at VPISU. Please recheck this site periodically to get this information about Army ROTC Commissions. US Air Force--Still to be confirmed is that all graduating AFROTC Cadets will be commissioned and ordered to active duty as soon as possible following their graduations and commissioning.
