For all of you who want a little more background on the Exit 100 - TopicsExpress

For all of you who want a little more background on the Exit 100 I-55 North beautification project, here you go. Many thanks to Kelly Peters Headley of LeFleur East Foundation for putting this to pen. And many thanks to Jim Wilkinson of FRF - Fondren Renaissance Foundation for his constant presence throughout. On the west side and the east side, we are working together...because WORKING TOGETHER WORKS! FROM KELLY HEADLEY For all who wish to know more, allow me to give you a brief summary of how this project got started. I work for the LeFleur East Foundation. It is a non-profit organization formed to work proactively for an area of Jackson not yet formerly represented. While our efforts are concentrated to a certain section of our city, I can assure you we are working together with the entire city to make Jackson healthier and stronger. Thankfully, so many areas of Jackson are now being represented by truly great groups of people giving their time and money to bite off a piece of our city one chunk at a time and make it better, stronger. When you look at all of the different groups on a map, it looks like a beautiful quilt. This beautification project was inspired by one of our charter board members, Leland Speed. It started out by us planning to plant a few small trees at the interchange. As we worked, we were encouraged by many that if we were going to do this, to do it right and make a big impact. A big impact so that it would be a catalyst for the rest of our interchanges to be addressed. I agree with all those who say that all of our interchanges need to be tended to. But with no financial help from the city itself, we could only start with one at a time. Hopefully with the joint efforts of our foundation and the Fondren Renaissance Foundation, we will be able to fund this first interchange and then move right on down to the next. It is merely a good idea until businesses and corporations have something to see. That is what we intend to do at Northside and I-55. Give everyone something to see, so that we will have a much easier time getting financial help for the rest of our interchanges. We must start somewhere, and it is exciting to see the interest to just get it started!! Northside Drive and I-55 is a Jackson interchange to be improved that will hopefully trickle down the entire I-55 corridor. Thank you for your interest and please do contact me if you want to know more!
