For my fellow computer hardware friends: There is a procedure - TopicsExpress

For my fellow computer hardware friends: There is a procedure that I read/heard about for years, but never believed enough to try until this week. It is called re-flowing a circuit board. You take a flaky motherboard or memory module, or other circuit board, and remove all of the removable components (fans, heat sinks, cables) and put it into a 385f oven for 9 minutes. The theory: tiny cracks develop in the solder over the years creating electronic noise, generating capacitance, etc. Softening the solder allows it to re bond with the components and everything works like new again. The reality: It worked for me. I baked a motherboard back to life. I forgot to remove the processor retainer clip, and it melted. It took me 4 days to find one online, order it and get it in, but the system booted up perfectly when I reassembled it.
