I’m glad Thunderf00t put this video out there. I looked around a bit after seeing the source video, and the only objection for a couple of weeks (or at least the one primarily focused upon) was the cost, which I always have an issue with for various reasons. The naysayers I viewed did not tackle the engineering aspects, essentially giving that to the designers, and those few who did challenge the science put out questionable compositions—always an obstacle to persuasion. TF’s video makes the mistake of addressing the ultimate vision of the engineers instead of the stated immediate goal, and his cost analysis is way off for materials. But he does acknowledge the start of things at only parking lots, which he deals with very well. Overall, this is an enlightening bit of information that people should see if they were excited about the “solar freakin’ roadways.” I admit to liking the idea for exactly the reason Thunderf00t suggests, that it seems really cool. However, my optimism and enthusiasm were always a tad guarded, though I admit to sharing the Indiegogo video. The two issues with solar power that I’m aware of (visible light capture and transport of energy) are dealt with adequately here, and plenty of other practical aspects are covered as well. Interesting point about light pollution at around 11:30, and comment about science literacy in the media at around 27. Thanks, Thunderf00t! youtube/watch?v=H901KdXgHs4
