For my hunter friends...... I have tried several scent blocker products with mixed results. I had read a article about scents that deer find neutral or attact their curiosity. Pure vanila extract was one of these scents. I took a small bottle with me yesterday. I poured some on my boots. The wind was blowing softly from the northwest. I had 2 does ( separate by 20 min) walk up to me from downwind. Do the eyeing a three dollar bill act. Stomp, snort and blow, and finally trot (slowly) squalling. This behavior meant they knew i didnt belong, but i didnt fit their known threat categories. Vanilla scent or dumb deer? IDK? But, i will research this more. Vanilla is definitely cheaper and more pleasant to the nose than commercial hunting scent products. And for my friends that still think the earth is heating up..... I have never worn a heavy coat on opening day of gun season. Next weekend is supposed to be bitter cold.
