For not having much of a history before last year, the Rabbits and SWC Eagles have provided a great subsection finals match up the past two seasons. WHS followed up last years 76-65 victory with a 56-52 wire-to-wire victory. Larissa Rohliks sole field goal came on a huge three-pointer, while Morgan Frank and Kacie Rothmeier both drained a pair of free throws with less than 40 seconds to play. With both sides scoring on their first two possessions, it looked like a repeat of last years score fest was in order. Just like the RRC game, the Rabbit posts were racking up the points. Chelsey Guetter had a couple of steals, two blocks, and shared the scoring duties with Morgan as the top seeds increased their lead from 10-7 to 18-7. SWC got to within 22-17, but Kacie went coast-to-coast on a layup after a timeout. Becky Franta made good on a subsequent Kacie theft by swishing a long range shot, and after the offense demonstrated great ball control, Callie Rohlik accounted for the 28-19 halftime score with a made two-pointer. Another Kacie steal led to a Chelsey hoop just seconds into the second stanza. Wabasso grabbed a 42-28 advantage with 10:20 to play when a long Chelsey pass resulted in a Becky bucket. The Eagles fought hard in the final minutes, led by their post Tianna Top (who was held scoreless in the first half). SWC got to within 45-42, but Chelsey found Morgan inside for two points. Larissa finished with three points, but they came at an important time. Karlee kicked the ball out to her fellow senior, and Larissas connection from the left corner made it 52-45. SWC rallied to within 52-50 with less than a minute, but after willing a defensive rebound, Morgan swished a pair of clutch free throws with 38.9 seconds left. With 15 seconds remaining, it was Kacies turn at the charity stripe. The result was the same, giving the Rabbits another game at SMSU six days from now. Minneota will serve as the opponent for the Section 3A finale. Player-Points-Assists-Steals Chelsey 22-11-5-6, Karlee 8-11-1-0, Morgan 8-8-2-3, Kacie 4-2-5-3, Becky 4-0-1-0, Larissa 3-0-2-0, Callie 2-2-0-0, Erin Liebl 1-3-0-1. Blocks: Chelsey 3, Karlee 1, Morgan 1.
