For one of the better CSG companies Santos are doing a very poor - TopicsExpress

For one of the better CSG companies Santos are doing a very poor job of convincing the community that we can trust them. The negativity has been bought on by themselves in a couple of ways. Not reporting spills to the local community rather waiting till someone finds it on the EPA website. How can we trust an industry to be self regulating. They would not let any agricultural industry do that. Blaming their spills on the previous owner when they themselves were a major shareholder of that company. Changing their minds on simple answers that the community would like answered before they go ahead with any more drilling. A map of the infrastructure so we know where everything is going to go in the allocated area. Where is the brine going to go, qld, buried or Newcastle What are they going to do with the produced water, put it in Yarrie Lake, give it to farmers to irrigate with or store in ponds. Will there be power lines between each well or will they be generators Having a council that hand picks the people for committees with Santos help does not help either. Having a Mayor who is hell bent on getting a handshake to another position if he can get this project through is not the greatest help. No one seems to be able to tell you these things, as for answering questions challenged on radio they avoid them like politicians. So of course there is going to be no social license and a failure to gain the right to operate. Who does this company think it is? In small country communities people do not like people coming in and telling them how to do things. They are usually called imports You have to earn the right to be able to guide a community. Remember the Man From Snowy River. Well nothing has changed. 20 years working with communities still does not give you that right so SANTOS YOU HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO get out now while you have the chance because it is not going to get any prettier for you. Your meetings with police in your Narrabri offices do not help your cause. No other company would have meetings with police the way you do. No proper community consultation paying for dinners at the local Chinese Restaurant is not community consultation it is bribery and looking very much like corruption. Barbecues at Yarrie Lake inviting only those you want there is not a way to communicate with the people of this community. Getting council to invite people down from Qld who live no where near the Gasfikeds, to explain how we can co exist with you is not my idea of community consultation either. So pack your bags jack or your project will be worth Zero by the time you have finished.
