For over twenty years I lived in a small town where murder and violence wasnt as common as it was closer to Seattle. The last time I went home it had changed, but it was still a good town. Today, in Marysville, Washington, tragedy took the place of another school shooting. The place where myself, my sisters, and many friends graduated. In the days to come, most people will be focusing on why this happened, how it couldve been prevented, and dealing with their anger by placing blame. I truly hope people can focus on healing and forgiving instead. My prayers go out to everyone involved. I pray for the victims to recover, the families of those who died to have the strength to face their grief, the students to have the courage to stand up and move on in the face of trauma, the community to have compassion for the shooters family, and for his family to be surrounded by support. Yes, they lost a son too and deserve our sympathy and compassion just as much as the others. I hope the Tulalip and Marysville communities can unite over this tragedy instead of letting it create a divide. For those back home, my heart is with you and those we love. For my friends Ive met since, please send your prayers to everyone in the town I called home.
