For the first time in my FB history I have unfriended and blocked a person. I found that I really cannot deal with uninformed stupidity, and there’s a lot of that crossing my newsfeed every day. Many, many people making really stupid mistakes with the best intentions…. Everybody has a right to make mistakes. I hope most will learn from them. But when these mistakes endanger cats lives and may be even people’s lives, refuse to be informed correctly, and even maintain that concrete block in front of their brain, there I will draw a line! Responsible rescue entails a few simple rules: 1. Whenever someone is looking to adopt out of state or even out of the country, while in their own neighbourhood cats are PTS by the millions, be very weary. 2. When people cannot afford transport, red flags should go up. People that cannot afford transport, cannot afford to vet cats getting sick, and in my opinion cannot afford cats. Especially with long distance adoption money really IS about the ONLY check one can do on the seriousness of an adopter. Remember, one cannot do a homecheck! And one simply HAS to check before sending a cat, for there are too many bad people online. It just is NOT possible to only trust people by what they are saying. 3. Make sure, if deciding for long distance adoption, cats travel as comfortable as possible. Don’t have them dragged cross country by car in the midst of summer! Travel is ALWAYS very STRESSFULL to cats! And most diseases in cats are caused by stress or at least are very much influenced by it. A cat can be perfectly healthy, but develop FIP during travel! Remember rescue cats are already traumatised! They don’t need to go through more sh*t unless absolutely necessary. 4. And when adopting: always make sure a cat is fully vetted and snaptested for FIV/FeLV. And make sure you get the proof that it has been done! Don’t believe people that simply tell you viruses do not exist in certain areas. Where people travel, viruses and bacteria travel along. And please do not ask me anymore to contribute to auctions to raise money if any of the above is not being taken care of properly. I am sick and tired of explaining why I don’t agree with irresponsible rescue, and I am also sick and tired of defending myself all the time. Get your facts straight first. Thank you.
