For the first time, we will have Christmas dinner at our table (our parents will come to ours). Somehow I dont feel worthy of it. Life can be heavy and hard at times, leaving me feeling like I dont have what it takes to celebrate such a holy day. But then I am reminded that our Savior came into the world in a stable full of smelly animals, His head lain in a feeding trough of straw wrapped in probably whatever cloth could be found. He came in the unholiness of a stable and made it holy, because He was there. So this Christmas, however imperfect our lives are, however unfinished our situations are, however unworthy we feel, He wants to come to us right there and make it holy. Because no matter what we do, we will never deserve His presence in our lowly stables. We can bring nothing to Him but our willingness to say, Come. We make room to celebrate you. We know You are what we need at our tables, in our homes, above the menial turkey and dressing, above the gifts. Somehow we know youll make it beautiful because You will be there. He comes right in the middle of our lives, wherever we are, and makes His home there. This is the Christmas story. This is the celebration. And it is ours for the taking.
