For the month of September, Robin Lamont - Author is donating half the proceeds for the sale of her new book, The Chain to the iVegan.ca campaign. The Chain, like Toronto Pig Save, encourages people to look through the “glass walls” of slaughterhouse operations. The Chain is a suspense novel that draws on the real life treatment of pigs in factory farms and slaughterhouses. After reading Gail Eisnitz’s iconic book Slaughterhouse and learning what happens to animals and to the workers in meat processing facilities, Lamont became vegan and decided to commit to a series of novels that she hopes will bring an awareness of animal suffering to mainstream readers of thrillers and suspense. Centering around an animal rights investigator, The Chain is the first book in The Kinship Series. “While the story and the characters in the novel are fictional,” says Lamont, “what happens to the animals is sadly true. I did extensive research to portray the scenes inside a slaughterhouse as realistically as possible. Gail Eisnitz was kind enough to meet with me and show me videos that have never been released to the public. I also spoke with a number of undercover investigators who have worked in factory farms and slaughterhouses. I even visited a few meat packing plants in Pennsylvania, but was denied entry because the industry wants to hide what is going on.” iVegan.ca
