For the past couple of weeks, weve been seeing our hives taking - TopicsExpress

For the past couple of weeks, weve been seeing our hives taking lots of sugar syrup because there wasnt enough natural forage (bee friendly flowering plants) for the bees. Fast forward to this morning and Im seeing a huge difference. All of a sudden, following the much needed rainfall, something is blooming and the bees are clearly working it like mad! Watch for all of the yellow on their hind legs in this clip. These are the female bees who have been out collecting pollen and nectar. The sacs on their hind legs, called pollen baskets, are packed full with honey. Pollen is an important protein source and a primary component of their diet. Hopefully, they are also gathering nectar - you see, in addition to providing the bees with carbohydrates, they turn nectar into honey for us! :)
