For the third year running, #Wokingham Borough Council has topped the national council tax collection charts for unitary authorities. Council taxpayers in Wokingham Borough continue to benefit from the most efficient unitary authority tax collection system in the country with the borough council collecting 99.43 per cent of the council tax it was owed for 2012/13 – up from 99.37 per cent and 99.28 per cent respectively from the previous two years. The national average collection rate for 2012/13 was 97.3 per cent and each percentage point for Wokingham Borough Council equates to about £750,000 of council tax – meaning that the efficiency of the council’s collection systems effectively generated in excess of £1.5million more than if it had been an average performing authority. Only the City of London has a higher collection rate (99.5 per cent) than Wokingham Borough Council, and there collectable debt is £5.9million compared with Wokingham Borough’s at £92.2million. Both New Forest (£99.3 million collectable) and Surrey Heath (£55.5 million collectable) also achieved 99.4 per cent.
