For those curious/interested in Toastmasters: Toastmasters is like a small group/society/club that has the purpose of helping members improve with their communication skills, public speaking and leadership skills. It is held in a formal setting. Theres usually a chairperson who runs the meeting, a secretary who takes minutes of the meeting, a person/people who prepare a speech, evaluators who evaluate the speeches and suggest how they can be improved. A discussion on the topics of the speeches usually follows. There may also be impromptu speeches done. Theres a person who does an ice breaker, a person who makes a toast, a time keeper, a person who is in charge of the refreshments (can be tea, cake, biscuits, juice etc). Ideally a person would go through each of the different roles I.e. at one meeting they may be a speaker, at another meeting they may be the time keeper and at another meeting they be the ice breaker. However, due to everybodys busy schedules, I have planned for 2 Toastmasters meetings this year so far. I truly believe that it is a worthwhile and enjoyable experience if participants are dedicated and take their roles seriously. More details will follow as time goes by.
