For those interested in discourses on the ahl al-Bayt, heres an essay question Ive just set myself and will start working on writing a paper on it by the end of the week. Muhammad Bin Kab Qarani says, [...] and from the men Abu Bakr and Ali were first to convert to Islam, however, Abu Bakr was open about his conversion whereas Ali hid it due to fear of his father (Abu Talib). I say, He (Ali) did hide it (his conversion) due to the fear of his father. To what extent is this statement by Ibn Kathir in his al-Bidayah wa al-Nihayah historically accurate and to what extent did the political milieau of the authors period shape his opinion? Employ the use of at least two other primary sources from the classical Islamic period. I invite Muhammad Waleed, Luqman Al-Andalusi and Syed Hasnain Bukhari to offer their insight. This will be fun, haha!
