For those looking for a little more clarity about what is intended for this gathering: In 1963, Buckminster Fuller developed a concept for a World Game- the exact opposite of a World War. The goal of the world game was: Make the world work for 100% of humanity, in the shortest possible time, through spontaneous cooperation, without ecological damage or disadvantage to anyone. Its time to play the World Game! In this group well meet up in parks and public spaces throughout the summer, and develop a a series of challenges, and campaigns that will spur collective creativity towards tackling big problems, and creating new strategies for energy use, food production, resource sharing, water filtration, information technology, education, health, and more, that will carry towards a world that works for 100% of humanity. Well use elements of game theory to make this work fun and engaging- pushing us to the limits of our abilities and understanding, and bringing us together. The goal is to create a movement through play that organizes and inspires people around shared goals, rather than shared belief systems. A few ideas: -Come together on a weekly basis for a park potluck to explore our talents and interests, and define our shared goals- the more wildly inspiring the better. Examples: End Houselessness in Portland. 100% Food Self Sufficiency. Free Community Wifi. Free education. Free healthcare. -Then, well break those shared goals down into specific, tangible challenges and campaigns that inspire creativity and competition among different projects and groups. Examples of possible competitions: Who can make the best dish using ONLY foods harvested within a mile of their home? Who can build the best tiny house? A Solar Oven chili cook-off. -Finally, well celebrate together when we meet our goals and challenges, with award ceremonies and celebrations. The idea is to organize ourselves to tackle the problems we face as a global society, in a way that is inspiring, open, fun, and based in direct community action. Tomorrow, well focus on creating a set of really compelling challenges. Good challenges are not only difficult and inspiring, but also doable, tangible, and practical. The idea is to get a good enough diversity of challenges that everyone can participate, but not so diverse that we become scattered.
