For those of my FB friends that dont know Toby is doing year 11 - TopicsExpress

For those of my FB friends that dont know Toby is doing year 11 this year, (where does time go), he does his school through Distance Education in Dubbo, as the regular schooling available in Orange just does not suit his way of learning or made very few allowances for the fact that he has Autism Spectrum Disorder. Toby has chosen extremely hard subjects for his HSC. including Advanced and Extension English. Toby has been studying McBeth, and has struggled a lot with the tasks given to him. Last week he was so bogged down and sad about his ability to do a task. He spent 3 days with writers block, staring into space and going no-where. I am little help, as i can cook but was never a scholar , John walks on egg shells trying to give support and encouragement, and tries to offer suggestions to help him get started. After a sudden spark of light Toby wrote what he thought might just meet the criteria, he said he was happy with what he had written and sent it off to his teacher. This is a small part of the email (feedback ) he received this morning. Dear Toby, Dear intelligent, brilliant learner Toby. You have struggled with this and you have come up with such a genuine response to Shakespeares drama that it makes me want to cry with happiness. There are very few students, in my experience, who could ever come near this type of imaginative re-creation of what is happening on the stage and within the world of the play. You have visualised; you have felt it; you have very clearly articulated what you as an audience make of the tragedy. I just love it. So so proud of him, some days I no he wants to give up and lock himself in his room and play xbox forever. But we know inside that Autistic brain, there is something very very special.
