For those of you in London on October 24, I do suggest a visit to Chatham House to hear two excellent speakers on the Pashtun issue. The Chatham House Asia Programme would like to invite you to the following invitation-only event: The Pashtun Question: The Key to Peace in Afghanistan and Pakistan? Friday 24 October | 13:00 - 14:00 Speaker Abubakar Siddique, journalist and author Chair Dr Farzana Shaikh, Associate Fellow, Asia Programme, Chatham House Location Chatham House | 10 St Jamess Square | London SW1Y 4LE The speaker will argue that the failure, or even unwillingness, of both Afghanistan and Pakistan to absorb the Pashtuns into their state structures has been a central factor in the rise of the Taliban and Islamic extremism throughout the region. Consequentially, solving the Pashtun question will be key to building stability in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Abubakar Siddique is a journalist with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty in Prague, specializing in coverage of Afghanistan and Pakistan. In addition to his reporting, Siddique has published numerous works on security, political, humanitarian and cultural issues in Pakistan, Afghanistan and the Pashtun heartland, where he was born.
