For those still scratching their heads, I switched my major from - TopicsExpress

For those still scratching their heads, I switched my major from Music to English Literature earlier this year. I still love music with all my heart, it is still my minor and I actively sing at my church (you can see on some Sundays at jamesriver.tv ...and hear an awesome sermon while youre at it), but after about a decade of wrong turns, failing Music Theory III for the second time after putting a bunch of blood, sweat, and tears in it, and finally realizing that I was much more passionate about writing 15 page papers and reading 600 page books over memorizing music, I decided this was the path for me. I think this is the best decision Ive ever made in my life. Not only do I own and have read the majority of my text books, but doing my homework is actually enjoyable and doesnt make me want to cry like a baby when I feel like Im not getting anywhere. Its like I was naturally equipped for this, and for once all my random little hobbies actually seem like they make sense together. So what am I doing? Well, I could tell you theres only one thing because that sounds like the solid I-have-everything-finally-figured-out grown-upy thing to say, but honestly, I just want the book job. I know, its not a title, but I could totally make it a thing. I just love looking at books. I love talking about books. I love getting others excited about books, and of course, I love writing. So heres the plan. Im going to get my masters in Library & Information Science (the Information part actually ties in all that graphic and web design Ive been playing with since 4th grade). I could be a librarian if I wish, but Im leaning more toward something that involves Childrens Literature and/or an Acquisitions Librarian (someone who chooses the books that go into a library). They arent set in stone, because as long as my job involves getting others excited about reading, then it wont take much to make me happy. So thats where I am right now. Do I wish I figured this out earlier? Why yes, yes I do. When I originally applied for college, I had a double major in Music and Writing until I realized how time-consuming Music was. But everything happens for a reason, and Im really happy with this decision. Hopefully that answers any lingering questions for anyone. :)
