For those who have noticed the bright planet Venus in the east - TopicsExpress

For those who have noticed the bright planet Venus in the east before sunrise there will be another planet joining it – Jupiter. A spectacular conjunction of the two planets early Monday morning might be worth getting up for, weather permitting. Venus is the brightest planet and Jupiter is next. About an hour to one half hour before sunrise is the best time for viewing. An imaginary look at the solar system from above would put the sun at the center and the Earth at 4 oclock and Venus and Jupiter both at 11 oclock. So we will be looking across the solar system, with both planets on the other side of the sun. Venus is much closer to us so it will appear the brighter of the two. Jupiter will be much, much farther out, but since it is a giant planet, its light will try to rival that of Venus. In a clear dark sky this conjunction can be dazzling.
