“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” Mark 8:36-37 “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.” James 3:17 What does it mean to let go, to release that tight hold we have on life, the unseen fears, hopes and dreams that we have that motivate us to stay busy, focused and sadly to use our lives to avoid it all? What does it matter in the end if we have failed to make the only connection in life that truly matters? Stop for a moment and imagine your life without your job, your family, your house and your stuff. Imagine you, just you, away from your environment, away from your people and what do you have left? What do you have if not that connection with your Creator? What is your life made of and what life have you created that gives meaning to it at all? To truly appreciate life is to see it for the temporary reality that it is. To truly appreciate your family and the connections that you have made here is to know that in but a moment it will all be gone. Our hope and our faith comes from trusting that we are awakened in our souls by Christ Jesus. He is what allows us to look beyond what is in front of us, beyond our responsibilities and to know that our lives begin with our death. All that we do, all that we experience and all that happens to us up until then is just leading us home if we are blessed with trusting in Him. Trusting in God and Jesus means that we no longer see this world as our only means of happiness and our only means of being alive. We are no longer driven to leave our mark on the world; to find success as the world defines it. We are transformed and full of the knowledge that true joy comes from leading a life that is pleasing to Christ and is the only sure way to guarantee our souls live beyond what we can see, touch or hear today. There is a whole world that has been created by God and it is for you and me. It is the reward of the believer, the follower and the obedient to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. It is the reward of heaven. “For since the beginning of the world Men have not heard nor perceived by the ear, Nor has the eye seen any God besides You, Who acts for the one who waits for Him.” Isaiah 64:4 Pastor John Collins
